An Ocklawaha woman has been fatally injured after her SUV crashed in Marion County near Umatilla. According to ClickOrlando, the 51-year-old's vehicle veered off the road onto the grassy shoulder, striking a warning sign and then a tree. The incident occurred around 10:30 p.m. on Saturday at the intersection of County Roads 450 and 42.
Authorities from the Florida Highway Patrol are still trying to piece together why the SUV failed to observe the stop sign at the crossroads. The crash sequence began when the SUV drove north on County Road 450 and, without stopping, passed through the intersection, subsequently hitting the roadside fixtures. It is believed that the driver was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, which could have only intensified the injuries sustained.
The aftermath of the collision led to the woman being rushed to Ocala Regional Hospital, as stated by WFTV. Despite the swift response, she was pronounced dead shortly after she arrived at the medical facility.
While FHP continues its investigation, no additional details about the events leading up to the accident have been released.
