With the new legislation in place counties may access up to $4,000 per mile for county road improvements in an effort to rectify the issues of structurally deficient bridges, and upgrade essential transportation veins which are crucial not just for public safety, but also for commerce and economic development; 1,764 county bridges in Oklahoma are presently classified as structurally deficient, reflecting a dire need for modernization and reparations. "This puts this critical funding directly into the hands of our counties to fix the roads and bridges they know best," Caldwell stated in an Oklahoma Senate press release. "This will keep Oklahomans safe as they travel.
