In a substantial shift toward domestic production, Orbic Electronics Manufacturing, LLC is set to bolster Long Island's economy with its $110 million manufacturing hub. Governor Kathy Hochul announced the move, signalling over 1,000 new jobs and the transition of Orbic's complete manufacturing operations from India and China to New York. According to the New York State's press release, this is part of a larger effort to revitalize the state's manufacturing industry, making New York a national contender in reshaping America's critical technology supply chains.
Empire State Development is backing the project with up to $10 million in Excelsior Jobs Tax Credits, as part of a strategy to encourage high-tech growth. "Orbic’s investment is a bold step forward for high-tech manufacturing in New York State. By choosing to grow in Hauppauge, Orbic is deepening its roots in a region known for its talent, infrastructure, and innovation potential," commented Hope Knight, President, CEO, and Commissioner of Empire State Development, highlighting the area's resources and the jobs this could bring. The company's CEO, Mike Narula, emphasized their dedication to quality, American-made technology and the benefits a local supply chain brings to the region's economy, as per the press release from New York State.
The construction of the facility, which is expected to be operational by early 2026, aims to produce up to five million devices annually across a range of consumer and enterprise tech products. It will include advancements such as surface mount technology lines, automated testing stations, and cleanroom settings for high-volume production in its 144,500 square feet combined space. "The past few years have clearly shown the importance of our region becoming more self-sufficient," State Senator Mario Mattera told public officials, voicing that the project will bolster the regional economy and retain talent on Long Island, as noyted by the New York State.
A critical aspect of Orbic's strategy is the partnership with local educational institutions such as Suffolk County Community College and Queensborough Community College. These collaborations are focused on nurturing specialized training programs in advanced electronics manufacturing. Developing a skilled workforce aligns with the state's long-term economic goals, which includes creating sustainable jobs and fostering innovation within the region. Orbic's reshoring initiative, combined with other substantial investments like Chobani's and IBM's, signify Governor Hochul's comprehensive plan to rejuvenate New York's manufacturing industry and secure a stable, advanced production base on American soil.
