
Erin McMahon, Director of the Oregon Department of Emergency Management (OEM), visited Wasco County on Wednesday last week to assess the impact of the Rowena Fire and support recovery efforts. During her visit, McMahon toured damaged areas and the Multi-Agency Resource Center (MARC), where residents displaced by the fire are receiving recovery assistance.
As per the Oregon Department of Emergency Management newsroom, McMahon met with Wasco County Emergency Manager Sheridan McClellan to discuss local needs and coordination efforts. She also joined a tour of the affected areas led by Fire Chief David Jensen of Mid-Columbia Fire and Rescue. The Rowena Fire has destroyed over 50 homes, 91 commercial properties, and 18 other structures.
In her remarks, McMahon emphasized the importance of preparedness and emergency communication. She highlighted the role of OR-Alert notifications in helping residents evacuate safely and encouraged Oregonians to sign up for alerts at www.oralert.gov.
The Oregon Department of Forestry and the Oregon State Fire Marshal were also recognized for their ongoing firefighting support. McMahon thanked all agencies and community members involved in the response and recovery efforts.
