
In what appears to be a carefully orchestrated heist, thieves made off with a substantial load of copper wiring and brass fittings from a West Penn Power substation in Westmoreland County, as state police endeavor to piece together events leading to this substantial loss. Drawing from details cited by WPXI, approximately 4,000 feet of copper, valued at over $53,000, was purloined from the utility's property sometime in the vicinity of mid-June.
In the shadow of night, before 11:40 p.m. last Wednesday, it's reported by Audacy, the thieves absconded with the copper—the sinews of our modern electrical lifeline—and several brass items, whose purpose at the West Penn-owned facility on Hickory Avenue in Derry Township.
The Pennsylvania State Police are actively investigating the theft, aiming to locate the stolen property and identify the individuals responsible.
