Tonight, Fort Lauderdale residents may have noticed a quiet in the activity along Galt Ocean Drive, but for those maneuvering around 3400 Galt Ocean Drive, there was a need to quickly adapt to detours. City crews executed overnight exploratory digging to locate a water main valve, causing closures starting at 11 p.m. and continuing till tomorrow morning. According to an update by the City of Fort Lauderdale, the much-needed work wrapped up at 5:30 a.m.

The shutdown required both lanes of Galt Ocean Drive at the venue of Greek Islands Taverna, nestled between Southpoint Condominium and L'Hermitage Condominium, to be inaccessible during the work schedule. Local traffic was diverted and had to solely access points south of NE 36th Street. Detours were put in place, guiding through traffic to A1A / N. Ocean Boulevard at NE 36th Street, with posted signs and cautions in place urging drivers to carefully navigate the temporary changes.

Residents close to the work site were prepped for a night of intermittent noises—backup alarms and the grind of heavy machinery. In a statement obtained by the City of Fort Lauderdale, they noted that "temporary lights will be used to illuminate the work area" and assured the local community that "the contractor will take measures to reduce light and noise impacts for surrounding neighbors."

There were no disruptions to water service expected. For more information regarding the project or the post-completion status, locals were advised to reach out to Andrew Wells, City of Fort Lauderdale Utilities Distribution & Collection Chief, at 954-828-7829 or via email at [email protected]. Similarly, inquiries could be directed to the City of Fort Lauderdale Customer Service Center at 954-828-8000 or [email protected]. For ongoing updates and a debrief on the situation, residents and motorists can visit the City's official website.
