
Tragedy struck on a recent Friday night when Austin Police responded to a report of a fatal traffic incident involving a vehicle and a pedestrian. The collision, occurring near the 400 block of South US HWY 183 SB just past 11:30 p.m., left the pedestrian deceased at the scene. According to the City of Austin, the victim has not yet been identified.
The incident is still under investigation, but early reports indicate that the driver, who sustained minor injuries, was not impaired at the time and is cooperating fully with law enforcement, as detailed by the City of Austin. The driver was taken to a local hospital, though their current condition is unclear.
APD has determined this event to be the city's 39th fatal crash of the year, leading to a toll of 43 fatalities—a jump from the 33 fatal crashes resulting in 34 deaths at this same point in 2024.
