Phoenix residents are bracing for an intense bout of heat with forecasts indicating a high near 116 degrees today, as prior predictions by the National Weather Service suggest. The city is no stranger to high temperatures, yet this spike stands as a reminder of summer's unyielding grip on the region. Calm conditions early in the day are expected to give way to a light westward breeze in the afternoon.
The evening cools to a degree, with temperatures expected to dip to around 90 degrees. However, relief from the heat will be minimal as westerly winds of 5 to 10 mph, with gusts potentially reaching 20 mph, look to roll in from the east after midnight, according to National Weather Service reports.
Looking ahead, Tuesday's climate remains staunchly hot with a high forecasted near 113 degrees. An east-southeast wind is expected, shifting southwest in the afternoon with similar winds of 5 to 10 mph and gusts up to 20 mph. A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms before 11 pm introduces some variability into the week's weather patterns.
Midweek predictions indicate a 20 percent chance of rain after 11 am Wednesday, with mostly sunny skies and a more forgiving high near 106 degrees. Nighttime brings a 30 percent chance of storms, mainly post-11 pm, offering a potential reprieve from the day's high. Despite the possibility of precipitation, Phoenix will continue to experience elevated temperatures into the holiday weekend, with Independence Day boasting a sunny outlook and a high near 103 degrees.
