
Nearly one year after an armed robbery shocked a Phoenix community, local authorities are still seeking assistance in apprehending the suspects responsible. According to a report by FOX 10 Phoenix, on July 11, 2024, AJ's Smoke Shop, situated near 83rd Avenue and McDowell Road, became the scene of a calculated crime at approximately 11:00 p.m.
Three individuals, identified as young black males, orchestrated a robbery; one offender leapt behind the counter, amassing goods, while another was seen with a weapon directed at a patron, forcefully obtaining their cell phone and belongings, acting upon what appeared to be a premeditated scheme their actions recorded by surveillance footage, the danger of the situation heightened by the threat of violence that kept the victims at bay. Phoenix Police Detective Mike Fisher emphasized the importance of staying calm to avoid injury during such situations, saying, "These people already have a plan and don't mess up their plan because they could shoot someone, they could stab someone," as reported by FOX 10 Phoenix.
The incident, which has yet to yield any arrests, has prompted a plea for public intervention; authorities are optimistic that despite the hindrance of concealed identities, unique mannerisms or ways of movement might lead to identification of the suspects. "A lot of times people assume that it's been a year already, they made an arrest. Well, in this case it's not the case," Detective Fisher stated, implying that community involvement is essential for progress.
Descriptions provided by the police characterize suspect one as a black male donning black pants with white stripes, white shoes, and blue gloves; suspect two, also a black male, roughly 5'9" tall and about 180 pounds, clad in black pants, a black sweatshirt, and brown boots while suspect three's attire included black pants and a sweatshirt, the descriptions indicating their attire during the time of the crime, in hopes that someone might recognize these individuals despite their efforts to obscure their identities, the descriptions overlap with those provided by ABC 15.
The Phoenix Police and the Silent Witness program are offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information that leads to an arrest.
