Police say the two adults involved in Tuesday's shooting were known to each other, though the events leading up to the violence remain unknown.
According to FOX 10 Phoenix, the Peoria Police Department is investigating the shooting, which occurred Tuesday near Grand and Peoria avenues. Preliminary investigation indicates one person shot the other before turning the gun on themselves, though it has not been confirmed whether the surviving victim will recover. Authorities have not identified anyone involved, and police say the community does not face a threat as a result of the incident.
The case is the latest in a string of domestic and interpersonal shootings that Peoria police have investigated in recent months. In July, officers arrested 53-year-old David Koepke after he reported shooting his girlfriend, 68-year-old Yvette Appleby, following a domestic dispute at a mobile home park near 71st and Olive avenues; Appleby later died at a hospital, and Koepke was held on a $1 million bond, per the same account.

Between 2009 and 2023, the Arizona Coalition to End Sexual and Domestic Violence documented 1,543 domestic violence-related deaths statewide, with media monitoring indicating firearms are the primary mechanism in these deaths, per the coalition's 2023 fatality report.
Firearms were involved in 61% of all suicide deaths investigated by the Maricopa County Office of the Medical Examiner in 2024, county records show.
