Residents of Puyallup, Edgewood, Sumner, and Milton in Pierce County are set to experience construction as the State Route 167 Completion Project ramps up activity this summer, with the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) facilitating an online open house from June 9 through August 9.
The objective of the online open house is to inform local communities about the upcoming construction phases, which include building a new expressway between SR 410 and North Meridian Avenue, and those interested in the impact of the project can dive into details such as a new interchange at North Meridian Avenue, two new bridges, the spuyaləpabš Trail extension, as well as improvements on ramps and streets, as per WSDOT.
The platform offers translations in Spanish, Russian, Korean, and Tagalog to cater to diverse language needs, and it's a place where visitors can leave comments or questions about the project; WSDOT is providing free internet access at several local libraries for those who might not have broadband service but wish to participate: Sumner Library, WSU Puyallup Research Center, Milton/Edgewood Library, Fife Library, and Bonney Lake Library are part of this initiative.
As part of the SR 167 Completion Project, which has been in motion with stages that started with the completion of the Wapato Way East bridge and SR 99 roundabout in Fife, the project aims to build a 6-mile long tolled highway connecting Puyallup to the Port of Tacoma, this new leg of construction focusing between SR 161/North Meridian Avenue and SR 410 initiated in 2025 and more work is set to begin in 2026 between North Meridian Avenue and I-5 with the entire completion expected by 2030, as detailed by the WSDOT.
