Pinellas County is currently seeking new members to join its Construction Licensing Board, as reported by the County's official website. This board, which includes 15 dedicated individuals from various construction trades, building and fire officials, as well as consumer representatives, is a vital component of the county's governance structure.
The call is out for professionals across multiple disciplines, including mechanical or Class A air conditioning contractors, roofing or sheet metal contractors, and those specialized in swimming pools, specialty structures, or veneer work. There's an opening too for a consumer representative, who should notably not be affiliated with the construction industry, to to ensure a balanced perspective. Additionally, a fire official and a South County Building Official from municipalities such as St. Petersburg, South Pasadena, Gulfport, Seminole, Kenneth City, or Pinellas Park are needed to fill the vacancies.
According to the announcement, these positions are appointed by the Pinellas County Board of County Commissioners, and appointees must be residents of Pinellas County — with the exception of the building official. Those appointed will serve four-year terms and cannot serve more than two consecutive terms, unless they take a two-year hiatus between terms. This limitation doesn't apply to building official or fire official positions, who are vital for continuous regulatory oversight.
Each member is also required to complete an annual limited financial disclosure, which is publicly available due to Florida's public records law. Details on the disclosure and the county's Standards for Conduct are accessible online. The Board has the responsibility to elect its chair and vice chair every two years, who will steer the group's direction while serving in their roles.
Prospective applicants can find more information and submit their applications on the Pinellas County website before the deadline of 3 PM on August 8. After the submission deadline, the Board of County Commissioners will carefully review all applications to make their selections at a subsequent meeting.
