A violent confrontation erupted on the quiet streets of Pittsburgh's Bon Air neighborhood yesterday afternoon when a man allegedly attacked a postal worker. According to court documents reported by WPXI, Jason Olszewski is accused of punching and kicking the mail carrier's truck on Tarragonna Street, and subsequently punching the postal worker after they exited the vehicle to inspect the damage.
The police claim that Olszewski then proceeded to barricade himself within a nearby residence, a situation that escalated quickly enough to call in a SWAT team. Thankfully, Olszewski surrendered peacefully soon after law enforcement's arrival. Billy Plunkett, a resident, expressed his opinion as per WPXI, saying, "This is a pretty safe neighborhood. It’s quiet. So it’s pretty shocking to see all that going down." He also suggested that Olszewski was no stranger to police, an assertion the court documents appear to support, noting an incident just last week when an officer had to use a taser on an aggressive Olszewski.
The alleged assault did not seriously injure the mail carrier, as reported by WTAE. Following the incident, Olszewski, 37, surrendered and is currently held in the Allegheny County Jail as the legal proceedings unfold.
