
A violent confrontation at a downtown Pittsburgh convenience store has led to a stabbing incident, with one man now in custody. The altercation occurred this afternoon when a man, reportedly attempting to steal merchandise, stabbed an employee who intervened.
The Pittsburgh Police were called to the 600 block of Liberty Avenue around 1:14 p.m. following reports of a stabbing, as per WPXI. They discovered an adult male store worker with a stab wound to his ribs, but conscious, alert, and able to speak to medics. The victim, whose name has not been disclosed, was transported to a hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.
Witnesses on the scene, along with the victim's account, detailed a struggle that ensued when the employee attempted to stop the suspect from shoplifting. The scuffle escalated, resulting in the worker being stabbed. Afterwards, the suspect fled on foot in the direction of the North Shore.
Utilizing city cameras, officers were able to track the assailant to a location near PNC Park. The suspect, whose identity has not yet been released to the public, was placed under arrest by police. According to a statement from Pittsburgh Public Safety, obtained by WTAE, the man was taken to the hospital for medical assessment before being transferred to Allegheny
