Heads up, commuters: significant overnight construction on westbound U.S. Route 54 near Brazito is slated for next week. Motorists should plan for slowed traffic and detours as MoDOT crews conduct surface treatments that require lane reductions. According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, starting from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. each night from next Monday, through Thursday, one lane will be shuttered.
Construction is not without its inconveniences. Notably, access from westbound U.S. Route 54 to Cole County Route E will be blocked, along with the J-turn crossover near West Brazito Road. Those aiming to access Pleasant Hill Road or West Brazito Road will need to seek alternate routes, with closures set to directly affect their accessibility to and from the eastbound lane.
This work stems from a contract awarded back in November 2024 by the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission. With a project price tag of $121,983.66, Louis-Company, LLC is tasked with applying a high friction surface treatment designed to enhance road safety in the area from West Brazito Road to east of Gray Road.
As with any construction project, MoDOT emphasizes the importance of safety for both workers and drivers alike. Asking for cooperation, a MoDOT spokesperson said, "We ask all motorists to work with us by buckling up, putting your phone down, obeying all traffic signs, and slowing down and moving over in work zones." It is critical that drivers stay vigilant to ensure everyone's safety as they navigate the construction zone.
Of course, weather remains a key factor, and project schedules are subject to shift depending on Mother Nature's whims. As always, staying alert to any updates or changes is advisable for those traveling through the affected areas. For the latest information on road conditions and work schedules, keep an eye on MoDOT's alerts before hitting the road.
