Memphis Police Department is conducting a death investigation after a woman's body was discovered yesterday, struck by a train in Frayser. According to information provided by Action News 5, the gruesome find was made near Felts Station Road, with the initial call coming in at 3:33 p.m. as a person hit by a train.
The conductor, who made the discovery, stopped the train and immediately called the authorities. Subsequent investigations, however, revealed that the woman had passed away at least a day prior to the incident, specifically, the body had been on the tracks for at least a day before the train's arrival. The Memphis Police Department has indicated that there is no suspicion of foul play at this time, said Lieutenant Marcus Frierson from MPD's Homicide Division.
Additional details from WREG stated that it was railroad workers who first noticed the body. Major Amorro Townnsel of the MPD mentioned that no one was present at the scene when the discovery was made, only the moving rail car. "No one was at the scene, the railroad tracks, the rail car was moving, and they observed it and called police," Major Townnsel reported.
As the police continue their investigation to piece together the circumstances that led to the woman's death, they are appealing to the public for any helpful information. The authorities have requested that anyone with insights contact CrimeStoppers at 901-528-CASH, in an effort to uncover more about the late woman's final days. This outreach was confirmed by FOX13 Memphis which specified the MPD's response to a suspicious person call prior to the discovery. The woman was found unresponsive and subsequently declared deceased on the tracks.
