A Portland man is now facing federal charges after a fatal overdose led authorities to his doorstep. Daryl Antonio Edward Turner, 43, has been slapped with distribution of fentanyl, possession with intent to distribute fentanyl, and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, following an investigation sparked by a deadly incident near Wood Village, Oregon, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.

Last Monday, the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrived at a suspected overdose scene, seizing a substance believed to be fentanyl. Within days, the alleged supplier of the potent drug was identified as Turner. Having been contacted by investigators in Portland on June 5, they discovered a firearm, counterfeit pills suspected of containing fentanyl, and cash totaling $922. Turner, acknowledging the lethal potential of fentanyl, admitted to the possession for distribution, the U.S. Attorney's Office reported.

Earlier today, Turner faced the subsequent step of his legal battle, making his first appearance in federal court, where he was ordered detained by a U.S. Magistrate Judge pending further procedures. The FBI, together with the Multnomah County Dangerous Drug Team, a coalition supported by the Oregon-Idaho High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Program, including members from the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office, Parole and Probation, Gresham Police Department, and others, led the investigation.
