Last night, the Portland Police Bureau (PPB) maintained a high-visibility presence in the South Waterfront neighborhood where protests have been unfolding by the ICE building. According to a press release from the PPB, the law enforcement agency, which does not engage in immigration enforcement, was on the scene to ensure public safety and order while state laws were upheld.

PPB's array of resources, which included Dialogue Liaison Officers and a Mobile Field Force, was on standby as part of an Incident Command Team. The evening began peacefully but escalated around 11:00 p.m. when individuals started throwing objects at the federal facility and personnel. The PPB reacted by making several targeted arrests.

The individuals arrested have been identified and face a mix of charges. Julia Fritz-Endres, aged 28, was apprehended for Interfering with a Peace Officer, Resisting Arrest, and Escape. The others arrested were Ryan Price, 23, on charges of Attempted Assault of a Police Officer; Joseph Relich, 30, for Resisting Arrest, Interfering with a Peace Officer, and additional counts; and Mason Thorton, also 23, who faces several charges including Attempted Assault of a Police Officer and Criminal Mischief in the Second Degree. One of the arrestees was transported to the hospital for reported arm pain following the intervention.

The PPB has stated it will continue to pursue follow-up investigations related to preceding nights' activities, and it intends to forward cases for prosecution when possible. In the press release, it is underlined that arrests are not always made on scene due to heightened tensions, but charges can still be filed later. Additional information about the Mayor’s and Chief's statements, as well as details on PPB's approach to public order, are available on the official PPB website.
