Owners of a local animal rescue are facing misdemeanor charges related to a case of animal cruelty. Brad and Gwen Ware, who run Puppy Luv animal rescue, were charged after an investigation revealed unsanitary conditions within their shelter, and dozens of dogs were found living in their own waste. According to FOX 10, the Arizona Humane Society intervened and the dogs have since been surrendered.
In a separate incident, a Surprise Police Department report shows an outpouring of support for an abandoned dog. After a dog was left near a walking trail by its owners, the department has been swamped with concerns for the animal's welfare. "We...encourage anyone in our community who may be unable to care for an animal to seek assistance from local community groups or the Arizona Humane Society," the Surprise police expressively stated in a report obtained by ABC 15.
Investigators in the Puppy Luv case have recommended charges of neglect, abandonment, and hoarding against the Wares, which are currently being prosecuted in Phoenix municipal court. Despite reaching out, at the time of reporting, FOX 10 had not heard back from the Wares' attorney.
Meanwhile, the abandoned dog's story gained significant traction among locals. The Surprise Police Department has been giving the dog extra attention, which has led to a surge of calls and emails regarding its well-being. The responsible individuals, a 20-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman, turned themselves in and will face animal cruelty charges. The police worked to closely gather information leading to the owner's surrender, and the dog's story now serves as a cautionary tale, reminding pet owners of the resources available to prevent such instances of neglect.
