A Quakertown family counselor, 55-year-old Jonathan Elliot Moyer from Alburtis, has decided to forgo a preliminary hearing and will stand trial on multiple charges involving the secret recording of patients and staff, the Bucks County District Attorney's Office confirmed. Moyer is now facing 12 counts related to the interception of oral communications, one count for possession of an instrument of crime, and 13 counts of invasion of privacy. Additional victims were identified, bringing the total number to 21, including minors.
The charges stem from allegations that Moyer secretly placed recording devices in the bathroom of his office and managed to covertly capture counseling sessions. According to the investigation, some of the hidden cameras were specifically directed at minors. A particularly unsettling accusation includes Moyer allegedly setting up a camera to obtain an "up-the-shorts" video of an unsuspecting young girl during a session.
Following the waiver of his preliminary hearing, Moyer is slated for a formal arraignment at the Bucks County Court of Common Pleas on June 30. Details regarding Moyer's charges and courtroom schedule were released in an official statement by Bucks County's administration.
District Attorney Jennifer Schorn expressed the gravity of the situation, "The actions of the defendant represent a profound betrayal of trust, particularly impacting vulnerable individuals seeking help," she said, per Bucks County. She emphasized the commitment of her office to hold those accountable who violate the privacy and safety of others. "Our office is committed to ensuring that those who violate the privacy and safety of others are held accountable to the fullest extent of the law. We stand with the victims and will pursue justice diligently," Schorn added, asserting the DA's support for the affected individuals.
