The bustling energy of New Orleans' music scene is set to fill the air in downtown Hickory this week as the city's Sails Original Music Series rolls on with Sierra Green and The Giants on stage. This free event, presented by Protection Products, Inc., kicks off at 7 p.m. this Friday at Union Square, promising an evening of soulful melodies and contemporary vibes. A blend of original soul, blues, and R&B, Sierra Green's artistry has earned her the moniker "Queen of Frenchmen Street," with roots tracing back to the city's historic 7th Ward.
According to a City of Hickory announcement, Sierra's ascension from the church choir to the apex of Frenchmen Street is a tale of gritty determination and profound soulfulness. She has been captivating audiences with the support of her meticulously assembled band, The Giants, comprising some of the finest musicians from the area. As Sails Music Coordinator Bob Sinclair puts it, "The New Orleans-based Sierra Green and her band create a place where soul, blues, and R&B find a new home—and she’ll take you there!"
The Sails Original Music Series is renowned for featuring national and international touring acts since its inception in 2012. It aims to showcase well-crafted live music, defined specifically as music written or composed by the performing artists. Beyond its presenting sponsor, the series has garnered support from businesses like Bob Sinclair Music, Larry’s Music & Sound, and Olde Hickory Brewery, enhancing Hickory's cultural landscape with diverse original music acts.
For those planning to attend, Union Square offers seating, but visitors can also bring their own lawn chairs or blankets for added comfort. Local bars and restaurants near the venue are ready to serve up food and beverages, creating a perfect complement to the evening's entertainment. And for those looking to enjoy a drink during the concert, ABC permitted businesses within the Hickory Downtown Social District will sell alcoholic beverages in specially marked cups.
