With mail theft continuing to be a concern in the City of Rancho Cordova, the Rancho Cordova Police Department (RCPD) is focused on strengthening efforts to prevent theft and enhance the security of residents' mail. To address this issue, the RCPD has partnered with the United States Postal Inspection Service (USPIS), with the USPIS leading mail theft investigations and the RCPD providing support, as outlined in a recent community alert posted on the city's official website.
Residents are urged to report any mail theft immediately by calling 9-1-1 and to notify the USPIS of all incidents. These measures assist authorities in tracking and addressing the issue. To reduce the risk of mail theft, residents are advised to collect their mail daily, particularly during peak theft periods, and to use the secure interior of the local post office for important or sensitive mail.
To improve preventive measures, the USPS provides services like USPS Hold Mail, which temporarily suspends mail delivery for those away from home, and USPS Informed Delivery, which offers digital previews of incoming mail. The RCPD also advises residents to promptly contact issuers of missing checks or valuable mail to prevent potential misuse by thieves.
Measures such as using a P.O. Box, Amazon locker, and installing security cameras are recommended to protect mail from theft. The combined efforts of community vigilance, USPSIS interventions, and support from the RCPD form the foundation of the response to mail theft in the city. These preventive steps aim to improve security within the postal system and support residents in Rancho Cordova.
