
A fire in Revere has resulted in the death of 77-year-old Richard Serino, officials confirmed. The incident occurred at a multi-family home on Washington Avenue in the afternoon. Emergency crews from the Revere Fire Department responded to a 9-1-1 call at 4:39 PM. Firefighters worked to control the flames and search for occupants. Serino was found inside the building and given medical aid, but was later pronounced dead at CHA Everett Hospital.
According to a Department of Fire Services release, Serino was a former U.S. Marine and Revere Police officer. His son is currently a firefighter in Revere.
The fire reached two alarms and required assistance from nearby departments including Chelsea, Malden, Massport, and Winthrop. Other departments provided station coverage. The building suffered major damage, and all residents were displaced.
Investigators are working to determine the fire’s cause. So far, there is no indication that it was intentionally set. The investigation involves the Revere Fire Department, Revere Police, State Police fire investigators with the State Fire Marshal’s office, and the Suffolk County District Attorney’s office, with support from the Department of Fire Services and the Boston Sparks Association.
