A man has been taken into custody following a robbery at a gas station in Somerset earlier this week. According to WHDH, James P. Spader, a 58-year-old resident of Kingston, R.I., has been charged with unarmed robbery and larceny from a building. The incident occurred Tuesday afternoon, and Spader was arraigned yesterday in Fall River District Court.

Somerset Police stated that officers responded to the SAV-ON gas station at 1693 G.A.R. Highway around 4:06 p.m. Spader allegedly fled the scene on foot carrying a cash drawer. A joint investigation between Massachusetts and Rhode Island authorities led to his location at a North Attleboro motel.

The Newport Dispatch reported that the effort was led by Detective James Cardella, with assistance from local investigators and Detective Sergeant Diogo Mello of the East Providence Police Department. Once Spader was identified as the suspect, officers executed arrest and search warrants at the motel, where he was taken into custody without incident.

Police found a firearm in the motel room along with other evidence. The discovery has led to additional charges, which will be handled by the North Attleboro Police Department.

Spader’s cash bail was set at $1,000. He is currently being held at a jail in New Bedford, according to the Somerset Police Department.
