Residents in Lincoln Village and the Stone Creek neighborhoods should brace themselves for roadwork disruptions as the city puts its plans for traffic calming measures into action. The Public Works department is focusing its efforts on Lincoln Village Drive and Baroque Drive, where new medians, curb bulb-outs, a roundabout, and improved bike lanes will soon reshape the local streetscape.
According to the city's announcement, construction on Lincoln Village Drive begun this week with the areas around Explorer Drive, Viking Drive, Virgo Street, and Sunrise Pines Drive being the primary targets for these upgrades and despite the promise of future safety and aesthetic improvements, temporary "No Parking" zones will pop up and residents will need to stay vigilant for signage that'll crop up 72 hours before street closures happen.
Moving to Baroque Drive, travelers can anticipate a transformed roadway as surface treatments, reimagined striping patterns, and a mini roundabout at Kilgore Road's intersection come to life. Keen on not just mollifying the rush but also on bolstering the safety for bikers, the project also focuses on introducing lane narrowing and enhanced crosswalks, which are part of a comprehensive strategy to slow down traffic and encourage a more community-oriented street environment.
With both projects slated for completion in Summer 2025, planning for extra drive time is a must for locals commuting through or living in these areas, however, the city also promises that these changes will not just alter the flow of daily commutes, but will also pave the way towards a safer, more livable neighborhood when all said and done.
