The Round Rock Public Library is venturing beyond its walls to bring books, movies, and a spate of summer reading fun directly to the community, setting up temporary outposts in local parks as part of its "Library on the Go" initiative. According to an announcement made public through the City of Round Rock's official news release, the library staff will be on hand to facilitate park-goers to sign up for library cards, and residents will have the opportunity to check out a variety of materials right on the green lawns of their local recreational spaces.

The program is geared towards increasing library reach and supporting the residents by making a stop at City parks, Frontier Park and Mesa Village Park, on select Saturdays throughout the summer from 9-11 a.m; specifically, Frontier Park will host these events on May 24, June 28, and July 26 while Mesa Village Park will welcome the library on wheels on June 14, July 12, and August 9. Patrons eager to quench their literary thirsts or catch up on the latest movies will just need to present a valid government-issued ID card, such as a driver’s license, passport, or military ID, to obtain a Round Rock Public Library card on-site.

Showing foresight in their planning, the Round Rock Public Library has structured the "Library on the Go" program such that the items checked out at these mobile sites can be returned either directly to the library or at subsequent gatherings of the program, creating a circuit of literary exchange that flows as freely as the park's summer breeze. With this initiative, the library aims to bridge the gap for individuals who find it challenging to access their services due to various constraints, highlighting the inclusivity and adaptability central to the library's community-fostering ethos.

Enhancing the connection to its patrons even further, "Library on the Go" is one facet of the library's suite of outreach services, which also includes home deliveries of books and other materials to eligible residents in the Round Rock area, encompassing homebound individuals, senior living communities, and facilities providing assisted living or nursing care. This holistic approach reaffirms the library's commitment to spreading the joy of reading and ensuring that educational resources are within reach for all members of the community, regardless of their mobility or proximity to the traditional brick-and-mortar library.
