Heads up, drivers and trail enthusiasts: a slice of Route 94 will temporarily shrink to a single-thread needle eye come next Wednesday. SCE, Inc., a crew decked with tools and a crane, will be playing Tetris with a pedestrian bridge on the Katy Trail, just west of where Route AA gives a nod to Route 94. This roadwork dance, choreographed by the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT), will set the stage from morning till the afternoon—8 a.m. to 4 p.m., to be exact—next Wednesday, provided the skies keep their end of the bargain, and the forecast stays clear of dramatics.
In-the-know locals are already marking their calendars for next Wednesday, when Route 94's westbound bustle will be forced to cozy up and take turns, thanks to a one-lane squeeze. MoDOT has got flaggers prepped and ready to play traffic conductors in this necessary, albeit inconvenient, daily commute interlude. Even though life buzzes on, and the need to get from A to B is as pressing as ever, a temporary halt of routine is essential for what MoDOT envisions as a safer, more connected Missouri, according to MoDOT's announcement.
As for trail trekker and two-wheeling citizens, this means their pathway will soon flaunt a new overpass—a boon for those who jog, pedal, or simply mosey along the Katy Trail. SCE, Inc.'s hands will be busy with beams and bolts, carefully arranging the pedestrian bridge into its future domicile. Missourians hunger for progress, but MoDOT cautions that construction schedules may sway with the whims of weather and unforeseen circumstances.
MoDOT isn't missing a beat to sound the safety trumpet, heralding the trifecta for safe driving: "work with us by buckling up, putting your phone down, obeying all traffic signs," and not to forget, make room, slow down for working souls in neon vests.
