Ryan Moran has been appointed as the new Director of the Washington State Health Care Authority (HCA), effective August 18. Moran is currently serving as Deputy Secretary for Health Care Financing and Medicaid Director at the Maryland Department of Health, according to an announcement from Governor Bob Ferguson’s office.
In Maryland, Moran oversaw the state’s Medicaid program, which serves over 1.5 million people. He previously held roles including Acting Secretary of Health for Maryland, CEO of Whitman-Walker Health System, and Assistant Vice President of Care Transformation at MedStar Health in Baltimore.
Moran holds a Doctor of Public Health degree from Johns Hopkins University, where his research focused on opioid intervention strategies. He also earned bachelor’s degrees in public policy and business administration from the University of Charleston, and a master’s in health services administration from Xavier University.
Moran said he looks forward to leading the HCA and supporting health care access and delivery for Washington residents.
