The Sacramento City Council has approved the next phase of The Railyards development, which includes expanding the Enhanced Infrastructure Financing District and authorizing construction of new facilities, including a professional soccer stadium for Sacramento Republic FC. The project involves about $325 million in private investment and is part of a broader redevelopment plan for the 244-acre site. It is expected to create nearly 24,000 jobs. Mayor Kevin McCarty stated, "I'm proud we're making this happen here in Sacramento," as reported by the City of Sacramento.
The City of Sacramento has approved plans for a new stadium, an entertainment district, and the restoration of the historic Central Shops. According to the City of Sacramento, the City Council passed resolutions to fund infrastructure improvements through future property tax revenues under the Enhanced Infrastructure Financing District. The Council also approved the purchase of two parcels of land needed for the Sacramento Valley Station Area Plan, which will support transit-oriented development and improve access to the area. The project is expected to bring more than one million visitors to the stadium each year. Completed and ongoing developments in the area include mixed-income housing, the Wong Center for seniors, and the Kaiser Permanente Railyards Medical Center.
The Railyards Public Financing Authority is scheduled to finalize approvals on June 24 for a major downtown Sacramento development. Following approval, the city plans to begin construction later this year on the stadium and the Central Shops redevelopment. Completion is expected in 2027. The project includes investments in infrastructure, housing, and job creation, as mentioned by the City of Sacramento.
