A bout of domestic turmoil has escalated into a chase and fatal collision in Sacramento, according to recent disclosures by the local police department. On June 1, Daniel Cunningham, 33, was implicated in a domestic violence incident on Farm Dale Way. When police arrived that day, he had already absconded. Fast forward to Saturday, the same address saw police presence again. This time for a civil standby requested by the victim, as she hoped to safely retrieve her belongings, according to the Sacramento Police Department facebook post.
In a press release from the Sacramento Police Department, officers on the scene were informed Cunningham, a parolee with an outstanding felony warrant, was spotted in a nearby vehicle. Their attempt to apprehend him led to a short pursuit, ending in a multi-vehicle crash at Florin Road and Greenhaven Drive. It was reported that Cunningham tried to flee the scene on foot but was detained with the assistance of a police K-9. Tragically, a man from one of the struck vehicles did not survive, pronounced dead by fire personnel.
The incident has triggered various investigations. The California Highway Patrol's Major Accident Investigation Team took over the crash scene to ascertain potential additional charges against Cunningham, who was medically cleared and incarcerated for parole violation, domestic violence, and felony pursuit charges, as stated by the Sacramento Police Department.
