Sacramento residents have the chance to weigh in on the future of Howe Avenue, as the city pushes forward with plans for revamping the busy corridor. According to Sacramento City Express, proposed updates include new paths for shared use, updated crosswalks, and upgraded infrastructure catered toward cyclists and pedestrians alike. Running between Fair Oaks Boulevard and the Power Inn Light Rail Station, these efforts are aimed at bolstering safety and accessibility along the avenue.
The project, dubbed Connecting Howe Avenue, has been gathering local sentiments. As earlier reported by Sacramento City Express, community feedback has previously been solicited through various surveys, workshops, and events in 2024, where residents have voiced their concerns about the corridor's safety and connectivity. "We're working to build a more connected and people-centered corridor," Charisse Padilla, associate transportation planner for the Department of Public Works, told Sacramento City Express. "Community voices have shaped this project from the start, and we want to ensure the next phase reflects what people need most."
A fresh round of community feedback is now in motion. Residents are encouraged to respond to an updated online survey and review design proposals that have been shaped by the previous round of community input. Interested parties can submit their views until July 11.
Additional opportunities for public engagement include a virtual workshop on Monday from 6:30-7:30 p.m., and an in-person open house set for Thursday from 6:30-8 p.m. at the Campus Commons Clubhouse (650 Commons Drive). Open house attendees will have the chance to get an overview of the proposed design alternatives and provide their input directly to the project team, while having the opportunity to pose questions. Registration is required for the Zoom meeting, with further details available through the webpage.
