In what's sure to be a relief for families looking to beat the Sacramento heat, the city unveiled the new Mama Marks Splash Pad over the past weekend. With ocean-themed features that include a sea turtle, starfish, and dolphin, the splash pad promises a wet and wild escape from the summer sun for kids and parents alike. According to details shared by Sacramento City Express, the fun began yesterday, marked by a ribbon-cutting ceremony lead by Councilmember Roger Dickinson alongside the Department of Youth, Parks & Community Enrichment.
Replacing what was once a wading pool, the new attraction at 1140 Roanoke Ave. delivers a splash of joy from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily. A much needed upgrade has been seen in the facility's transition, allowing for an inclusive and accessible play space, with the bonus of extended public hours that families bearing through the ongoing challenges of maintenance can appreciate. “I am thrilled to open the long-awaited Splash Pad at Mama Marks Park,” Dickinson, caught up in the community's excitement, told Sacramento City Express. The project was bolstered by substantial funding from the Sacramento Housing and Redevelopment Agency (SHRA), which dished out $600,000 through a Community Development Block Grant in 2022, and a further $200,000 in 2024.
Beyond the ripples of the splash pad, the City is pointing residents to other options to stay chill as the mercury climbs. Swimmers have two city pools to dive into—the North Natomas Aquatics Complex and Clunie Pool—with more wading pools set to open in the upcoming weeks.
