Another disturbing incident has emerged from the digital interactions between adults and minors, with a man being arrested after deputies discovered him with a sexually assaulted teenager in a West Side park. According to a report by KTSA, the Bexar County Sheriff's Office responded to a call about a suspicious vehicle late Monday night and found 30-year-old Nathan Gonzales partially undressed and exiting the backseat of his car; he tried to leave the scene before he was stopped by deputies shortly after.
Gonzales, who was reported to have been in the company of a 15-year-old girl at the time of his apprehension, is now behind bars facing charges related to continuous sexual abuse of a child. In a statement obtained by KTSA, Gonzales initially claimed ignorance of the girl's age, despite admitting to meeting her through social media and communicating over an extended period of time, in what reads like a dubious testament to his awareness, or the lack thereof, concerning the implications of his actions.
The details surrounding the case are chilling in their starkness, with KENS 5 describing Gonzales's rapid re-entry into his vehicle and his disregard for traffic regulations as he fled from officers before being stopped; during the subsequent investigation, he reportedly admitted to arranging to meet the victim through online communication, which ultimately led to the assault. Gonzales is being held at Bexar County Jail with his bond set at $125,000, where he will await the next steps in a process that shifts inevitably towards the judiciary.
