A man in San Antonio was charged with making terrorist threats against local law enforcement, officials confirmed. David Pineda Acevedo, 29, is accused of threatening to attack the San Antonio Police Department using grenades. The menacing call, placed on Wednesday, was made to the 911 operator where Acevedo claimed, "I have 16 grenades in case y'all hurt my people today, those 16 grenades will be deployed to the San Antonio Police Department and we are going to kill 16 police, that’s all I am going to say," according to a report by FOX San Antonio.
The charge comes amid a background of heightened tension, as protests occurred in downtown San Antonio over immigration enforcement actions by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement on the supposed day of the call. Body camera footage and a previous robbery case, where Acevedo was identified as the victim, helped link the phone number used for the call to him. The audio from the 911 call confirmed Acevedo's identity, supporting investigators' belief that the threats were intentional and in retaliation for law enforcement's actions, as reported by KSAT.
Upon arrest, Acevedo was charged with obstruction or retaliation, a serious offense that stands when threats are made to impair public servants from performing their duties. These types of charges not only highlight the risks faced by law enforcement but also the grave consequences for those who threaten to harm public safety officials.
Acevedo was being processed at the Bexar County Adult Detention Center as of last Friday.
