A San Antonio local, identified as Achanti Christopher Tyrese Gunn, has been detained in relation to a series of audacious armored truck heists that shook the city in 2023. According to the details laid out in court documents, Gunn, 25, who goes by the alias Bonzi, was purportedly involved with three others in a brazen robbery spree, targeting armored vehicles with the threat of firepower, absconding with cash and valuables before finding refuge in a well-orchestrated escape.
Gunn's indictment came down on May 7 and his arrest followed last Sunday, shining a spotlight on the continued efforts of law enforcement in the aftermath of these crimes. As reported by the U.S. Attorney's Office, he's now facing a slew of charges including conspiracy to commit Hobbs Act robbery, Hobbs Act robbery itself, and brandishing a weapon during a violent crime. Each count brings with it a heavy weight; the conspiracy and robbery charges can lead to 20 years imprisonment, while the firearms offense potentially adds a minimum of seven years, stacking consecutively with any other sentenced time.
Gunn's alleged accomplices had already found themselves behind bars. Co-defendants Daquwan Reshay Richardson, Jeremiah Jerome Richardson, and Jordan Raekwon Jones, known in some circles as Murda Maxx, stand accused under similar charges. These arrests precede Gunn's by some time, dating back to as early as July 2023, with the most recent, Jones, being taken into custody in November of the previous year.
The investigation has been a joint operation, pooling the resources of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives alongside the San Antonio Police Department. With Assistant U.S. Attorney Brian Nowinski leading the prosecution efforts, U.S. Attorney Justin Simmons announced the recent development in a bid to assure the public of justice being pursued.
