With temperatures climbing, San Antonio is taking steps to ensure its residents remain cool and informed. The city and partnering organizations have launched a hot weather safety initiative, offering a series of workshops aimed at preparing the community for the soaring heat. According to a press release from the City of San Antonio, these events are being held at various City Resilience Hubs, which double as community and senior centers.
The workshops will cover a range of topics, including preparing for heat, power outages, wellness, outdoor safety, transportation, and how to assist your community during hot weather emergencies. Designed for all ages, the sessions feature presentations and discussions, children's activities, adult skill learning, and networking opportunities with representatives from City departments and organizations like Bexar County, CPS Energy, Alamo Area Council of Governments, and United Way.
San Antonians interested in attending can register at SASpeakUp.com, securing their spot at any of the six scheduled workshops. In collaborative efforts with the Texas Division of Emergency Management and more, the city aims to equip residents with the knowledge and tools to effectively navigate and mitigate the risks associated with high temperature conditions.
The calendar kicks off tomorrow, with an event focusing on "Preparing Yourself for the Heat" at Miller’s Pond Community Center and wraps up on August 28, covering "Heat and Community Partnerships" at Northeast Senior Center. Each session is free to the public and integrates expert advice and hands-on experience to help San Antonio stand up to the challenges posed by heat waves.
