The forecast is in, bringing a cool down to the San Diego area over the next few days. According to the National Weather Service in San Diego, residents can expect a significant drop in temperatures through Saturday, with highs reaching from the upper 60s along the coast to the lower 100s in the lower deserts.

Moving into the western states, the low pressure is bringing cooler temperatures 8 to 12 degrees below average for the mountains, inland valleys, and high desert regions through Saturday. Highs on Thursday in the coastal areas are projected to be 71 to 79, whereas the low desert could scorch temperatures between 108 and 112. This cooling trend continues from Wednesday, with temperatures already dropping a few degrees from Tuesday for the coast and valleys.

With the marine layer deepening and the onshore flow getting stronger, "There will gusty southwest to west winds during the afternoons and evenings for the mountains and deserts with the stronger gusts to 35 to 45 mph," according to the Area Forecast Discussion. Coastal low clouds are expected to spread farther inland to the valleys, with the marine layer reaching roughly 2500 feet for Saturday.

Looking ahead to Sunday through Wednesday, "High temperatures will warm 5 to locally 10 degrees but remain below average by around 5 degrees," the National Weather Service San Diego reports. The marine layer will persist, though it will decrease in depth slightly to around 1500 to 2000 feet. Night and morning, low clouds will continue making their way into the western valleys, coupled with clearer skies over mountains and deserts unaffected by these marine influences. Meanwhile, the marine conditions are predicted to stay relatively calm through Sunday, with northwest winds gusting near 20 knots close to San Clemente Island on Friday afternoon and evening.
