San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins has charged 44-year-old Hauwei Lien with multiple felonies in connection with last Saturday's hit-and-run during the "No Kings March." Lien, driving his red Tesla Model Y, allegedly struck a 69-year-old man among the marchers, causing serious injuries, as reported by the San Francisco District Attorney's press release.
The incident occurred at the intersection of Market Street and Laguna Street as Lien attempted to cross through the protesting crowd. The victim, with the intent to stop the vehicle, was allegedly accelerated into by Lien, resulting in the man being hurled from the hood after a sudden brake maneuver, suffering a large gash across his forehead and two broken toes. Charged with elder abuse, assault with a deadly weapon, and felony hit and run, Lien pleaded not guilty, according to court documents.
Lien was arraigned on Wednesday and is now being held without bail. Citing the potential danger to public safety, the District Attorney's Office requested no bail, which the court granted. "Mr. Lien did not stop and accelerated into the victim, pushing him on to the hood of the car then drove across Market Street southbound on Guerrero Street with the victim clutching on to the hood," the District Attorney's Office detailed the allegations. His next court appearance is scheduled for a bail review next Monday.
