A high-speed police chase through Sandy Springs involving a stolen car has landed a man behind bars this June. Sandy Springs police were performing a routine check in the 1100 block of Mt. Vernon Highway late on June 5 when they noticed a red Dodge Challenger Scat Pack that seemed out of place.

According to officers, the vehicle was parked with at least one person inside during the standard business check. The license plate search, conducted using Flock cameras, revealed the plate was simultaneously registered to another car. While police were still on the scene, a man identified as Brandon Barton entered the car and proceeded to drive swiftly away. Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but Barton initially stopped only to then drive off, forcing officers to give chase, FOX 5 Atlanta reported.

The chase concluded with the police executing a precision immobilization technique (PIT) maneuver on GA 400 northbound near Hammond Drive, effectively bringing the Dodge Challenger to a halt. The ordeal was captured on video, and is viewable on the police department's Facebook page. Further investigation confirmed the Dodge Challenger had been stolen.

Police charged Brandon Barton with multiple crimes, including affixing a license plate to conceal the identity of the vehicle and felony fleeing and eluding. He is also facing charges of reckless driving, felony theft by receiving, operating an unsafe vehicle, and possession of Schedule II narcotic. The passenger, whose details were not disclosed, was also arrested. The aftermath of the pursuit saw Barton booked into the Fulton County Jail, as detailed in a WSB-TV report.

While the chase and the resulting arrests received considerable attention, neither article released any detailed information regarding the passenger in the car. The authorities have yet to disclose the identity or any further details regarding the individual accompanying Barton during the incident.
