This morning, a serious accident involving a vehicle and a bicyclist was reported in Santa Rosa at the intersection of Sebastopol Road and Laurel Grove Circle. First responders were dispatched following a 911 call that came through at approximately 8:12 AM, as confirmed by the Santa Rosa Police Department's social media post.
The collision resulted in a bicyclist, a 55-year-old resident, sustaining life-threatening injuries and undergoing immediate transportation to a trauma center. The driver of the involved gold Ford pickup stayed on the scene and was found sober during initial assessments by the authorities. Although details about the cause of the collision remain under investigation, initial reports suggest the bicyclist was crossing when struck by the pickup traveling westbound on Sebastopol Rd, according to the investigative officer's statement, and supported by a witness account.
The identity of the injured bicyclist has not been released pending notification of next of kin, and the driver, a 59-year-old from Cloverdale, is currently cooperating with the ongoing investigation; preliminary observations do not indicate that speed was a contributing factor in this unfortunate incident. The collision's aftermath led to the closure of westbound lanes near the intersection for several hours, which caused traffic. Technicians were called out to the scene to gather information and aid in piecing together the events that led up to the crash.
As the investigation continues, law enforcement is appealing for any additional witnesses or anyone with information about the crash to come forward and assist in the process. Those with pertinent details can contact Officer J. Meteyer at [email protected] to help piece together the crash's circumstances.
