The Santa Rosa community is still reeling after a distressing incident last Saturday when a vehicle collided with a 14-year-old pedestrian. The situation unfolded at about 10:20 PM, near College Avenue and Beaver Street, where emergency calls flooded into the SRPD, one from the involved driver who remained on the scene, stating that a pedestrian had been struck and was unresponsive on the ground, according to a social media post from the Santa Rosa Police Department.
First responders from both the Santa Rosa Police Department and the Santa Rosa Fire Department arrived at the scene to find a young male victim unconscious in the westbound lanes of College Avenue. His injuries were severe enough to require immediate transport to a local trauma center, and he was later transferred to a Bay Area facility, where he remains in critical condition. Police have withheld the juvenile's name to protect his privacy and are reviewing area surveillance footage to determine the circumstances of the collision, including whether the pedestrian was using the crosswalk at the intersection.
The driver, cooperating fully with authorities, drove a Honda Pilot and claimed to have been traveling west on College Avenue when the accident occurred. Given the ongoing nature of their investigation, police have not yet released her identity. Upon speaking with her, officers found no signs that she was driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the incident.
The young pedestrian is a resident of Santa Rosa and is believed to have been with another juvenile and possibly skateboarding before being hit.
