Local authorities and multiple agencies continue a concerted search for a Dallas firefighter who went missing after his kayak overturned on Lake Lavon. In an update posted by the Collin County Sheriff's Office on social media, the report, initially coming in last Saturday, indicated that an individual and their dog had been spotted in distress, though subsequent observers noted only the dog near the capsized kayak.
Search efforts began promptly, with various units from Collin County Sheriff's Office, Wylie Fire Rescue, and other partners like the Lucas Fire Department, Princeton Fire Department, and Texas Parks and Wildlife Game Wardens responding; together they faced headwinds and hazards such as submerged trees complicating the operation, the dog associated with the missing kayaker has been rescued and was confirmed to be in good health according to the details shared by officials.
Dive teams have been deployed, and the search is ongoing, with diving operations resuming early yesterday, as stated by the Collin County Sheriff's Office. The search is concentrated around Bratonia Park, which has been closed off to public access, allowing the teams, including additional support from the Dallas Fire Department, to carry out rescue efforts unimpeded. Agencies like the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and AMR have also lent their expertise to the multi-agency undertaking.
