Seattle's public utility sector may not often be in the limelight, but for Shaun McKesson, an Electrician Constructor Operator with Seattle City Light since June 2013, it's been a backbone of professional growth and a testament to service dedication. McKesson, who proudly stands at the intersection of electricity generation, safety, and community service, has recently stepped into a dual role that underscores this commitment—juggling responsibilities as a Shops Coordinator alongside his position in the utility's Safety, Health, and Wellness Division.
With an ever-expanding portfolio of projects and experiences under his belt, Shaun has come to deeply understand the nuances and operational magnitude of a public utility. His initial role entailed being hands-on at every generation site, from Skagit to Boundary, where he has worked on tasks ranging from generator rewinds to transformer installations. He actively seeks to enhance the safety culture within high-risk electrical environments, serving as a bridge to better integrate safety protocols and day-to-day operations. "I’m excited about the opportunity to collaborate closely with the safety team and help strengthen the connection between safety, substations, and operations," McKesson told Seattle City Light.
A Washington native hailing from Puyallup, McKesson is a graduate of South Seattle College with a focus on Applied Science and has completed the Seattle City Light Electrician Constructor Apprenticeship. As per the same interview, outside of his utility work, McKesson and his wife, who recently celebrated their first anniversary, lead an adventurous life, punctuated by outdoor excursions with their 13-year-old black lab, Kahlúa. They share a passion for fitness and aim to eventually open a gym, translating their commitment to a healthy lifestyle into a community endeavor. Meanwhile, the couple is on the lookout for a place to build their forever home.
