In a move designed to assist the more seasoned segment of the population, Saint Louis County has laid out a plan to offer special Saturday hours for those seeking to apply for the Senior Property Tax Freeze program. The program, which began accepting applications last October, has seen a surge of interest from over 50,000 applicants, according to a statement from the Saint Louis County.
The dedicated Saturday sessions are planned exclusively for starting new applications. "We want to make it easier for our seniors to get the help they need without the stress of taking time off during the work week" said Tony Smee, director of the Department of Revenue. It’s clear the intention is to alleviate the pressures of weekday hassles for the elderly demographic desiring assistance under the tax freeze program, as per the Saint Louis County's news release.
Seniors who wish to apply can do so at one of three county offices on designated Saturdays in June. These offices will open their doors from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with each location catering to new applications only. Activities like status checks, document updates, or follow-up requests will not be entertained during these events.
The alphabetical list of dates and locations is as follows: June 14 at the West County Government Center (70 Clarkson Wilson Center, Chesterfield, MO 63017), June 21 at the South County Government Center (4554 Lemay Ferry Road, St. Louis, MO 63129) and, finally, June 28 at the North County Government Center (715 Northwest Plaza Drive, St. Ann, MO 63074).
