A collision of metal and circumstance brought Route 30 in Westmoreland County to a standstill last night, as emergency responders rushed to a scene of a severe accident that left one individual fighting for their life. According to WPXI, the Southwest Greensburg Fire Department reported that the crash involved a passenger vehicle and a tri-axle truck.
The calamity unfolded near the Route 119 interchange, causing the eastbound lanes to shut down for several hours and sending commuters into a snake-like procession of brake lights and detours. First responders found a civilian nurse administering CPR to a person amidst the wrecked vehicles. This individual, whose quick actions were praised by the Fire Department, played a crucial role in reviving the person until medics arrived. The victim was subsequently transported to a hospital in critical condition.
According to TribLIVE, the closure of Route 30, which persisted until around 9:40 p.m., was necessary as Pennsylvania State Police combed through evidence and vehicle remnants, seeking to piece together the events leading up to the day's tragic narrative.
