In Climax, a small Georgia town reeling from scandal, Mayor Joseph Kelly and his wife, Natalie Kelly, were arrested on disturbing charges involving minors. According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, Joseph is facing two counts of child molestation, and Natalie is looking at two counts of cruelty to children in the second degree.
The investigation, which took a turn after detectives from the Decatur County Sheriff’s Office called in the GBI, culminated in arrests on the final day of May. Expected to stand tall as a pillar of the community, Joseph Kelly, who is also employed by the Decatur County School District, is entangled in allegations that betray that trust. His wife, Natalie, standing alongside, is accused of acts of cruelty against those one would assume she helped to protect and nurture.
While the details seep out slowly about the nature of these offenses, the GBI confirmed to the press that Joseph's alleged sexual misconduct involved several minors. At this juncture, it seems the supposed infractions have no link to the mayor's educational role within the community — a sliver of data within a murky, unsettling torrent.
The Kellys were booked into the Decatur County Jail, their reputations tarred by the charges at hand, where bail and further court dates, as outlined by the GBI, have yet to be disclosed. Anchored by law, the investigative findings will soon be passed to the South Georgia Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office, steering the couple towards prosecution's impending tempest.
