Residents in Cleveland and the surrounding areas of Ohio Valley can expect mostly clear skies today, albeit with a haze of smoke stemming from the raging wildfires in Canada, per the National Weather Service Cleveland OH. While the surface visibility remains largely unaffected as of now, the smoke in the upper atmosphere could lead to slightly cooler temperatures, possibly dipping a degree or two below expectations, casting a "whitish tint to the atmosphere."
Increased smoke density is forecasted for Monday night into Tuesday morning. The NWS has added a mention of haze to their forecast. According to NWS discussions, "The vertically integrated smoke parameter off the HRRR indicates the smoke will be most dense Monday night into Tuesday morning." Despite the potential of a thicker layer of smoke, surface visibilities are expected to remain clear outside of possible 5-6-mile visibility ranges coming Tuesday, which could introduce travel nuisances for some.
In the upcoming days, the NWS anticipates a warm front to lift north across the area on Tuesday, followed by a slow-moving cold front from Wednesday night through Thursday. This expected shift in weather patterns signals a turn towards wetter and potentially stormier conditions, with thunderstorms and high moisture levels contributing to risks of torrential rainfall and flash flooding midweek.
As for marine conditions, Lake Erie stays calm with waves under 3 feet forecasted through the week. A surface ridge presently over the lake is expected to give way to erratic SW'erly winds becoming NW'erly post-thursday, as a trough and a cold front make their advance. Lake-goers should expect mainly S'erly to SW'erly winds till Wednesday, which could shift, leading to conditions less predictable as several lows track along the approaching cold front through the end of the week.
The NWS report also highlights upcoming weather transitions over the weekend, with the passing cold front leading to fair weather conditions by Saturday. Although the front passage is expected to be weak, it heralds a slightly cooler and drier air mass for the weekend, offering some respite from the earlier wet and uncertain conditions. With this, locals can anticipate a return to more stable outdoor activities following the potential tumult of the week.
