A tragic mishap occurred Wednesday evening at Fort Campbell military base, resulting in the death of one soldier and injuries to another during a helicopter training exercise. The incident took place in the base's training area around 7 p.m., as reported by WKRN. Responders arrived on the scene to discover one soldier had perished and the other was quickly transported to Blanchfield Army Community Hospital in stable condition.
The soldiers, both members of the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), were engaging in a routine aviation training when the incident abruptly turned fatal. As of now, Fort Campbell has not disclosed the make of the helicopter involved nor confirmed if a crash was totally to blame for the casualties. The military base has initiated a full investigation to accurately determine the cause, as noted in a news release by Clarksville Now.
As per standard procedure, the identities of those involved are currently withheld, to be released 24 hours after the next of kin have been notified out of respect for the families’ privacy and grief. This protocol aligns with the military’s strict adherence to family notification processes before making such information public.
