The District is grappling with the aftermath of a series of vehicle thefts and related crimes, as the Metropolitan Police Department has recently reported the arrest of a suspect tied to a spree of unlawful entries and auto thefts. Corey Pinkins, a 23-year-old resident of Southeast, D.C., has been identified and charged with multiple incidents where vehicles were broken into, property was taken, and in some instances, vehicles were outright stolen from various private parking garages throughout the city, according to a statement from the Metropolitan Police Department.

Spanning from a theft on May 18, 2024, to a string of offenses through May and June of 2025, Pinkins allegedly entered these garages, targeted vehicles, and in six cases drove off with the vehicles themselves; authorities have since recovered several cars. Notable incidents included thefts on the 2000 block of Bladensburg Road, Northeast, and instances of theft and destruction of property in the 900 block of 9th Street, Northwest among other locations, painting a persistent trail of felonious conduct that kept the MPD on alert as they put together the pieces leading to Pinkins' capture.

Upon his arrest, police found property belonging to one of the victims in the suspect's possession, which further linked him to the chain of offenses he is continuing to cause within the community, for which he is now being held accountable. Pinkins also faces an additional charge as a Fugitive of Justice due to outstanding charges from Prince Georges’ County, hinting at a broader spectrum of criminal activity beyond the District’s boundaries.
