In the third week of June, the Southern District of Texas charged 215 individuals as part of a federal law enforcement initiative targeting border-related offenses. From June 13 to 19, 204 new cases were filed, including 65 involving illegal reentry by individuals with prior criminal records such as drug offenses, violent crimes, and past immigration violations. These actions are part of Operation Take Back America, which focuses on reducing illegal immigration and disrupting criminal cartel activity, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Law enforcement has reported several cases, including charges against two Mexican nationals, Adrian Alberto Castillo-Contador and Lorenzo Ramirez. Both face up to eight years in prison for allegedly assaulting officers in separate incidents—one at the Hidalgo port of entry and another during a failed human smuggling attempt. Nearly two dozen people were also charged in a drug and money laundering case. Authorities seized over 170 kilograms of cocaine and heroin, more than 2,000 kilograms of methamphetamine, over 100 firearms, and large amounts of cash and property, as reported by the U.S. Attorney's Office.
Multiple agencies, including Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Homeland Security Investigations, Border Patrol, and local law enforcement, are working together to address illegal immigration and related activities such as firearms trafficking and transporting undocumented individuals. These efforts are part of ongoing operations in the Southern District of Texas, which covers 43 counties and serves more than nine million people, as stated by the U.S. Attorney's Office.
